Today I am going to share with you the 7 steps to happiness and my own personal vision board.

I guarantee that if you follow these steps, your life will change for the better.

So pause this video and grab a pen and paper so you can take notes and write your answers to some very important questions I going to ask you.

I am going to be totally open and honest with you and share my personal answers to some of these questions.

So let’s get started.

Step Number 1: Who do you want to be?

This question is about your “self image”. Who do you see yourself being?

Remember we are human beings, not human doings.

To help you answer this questions think of someone you look up to, a role model, someone who inspires you or you respect very much.

Maybe it’s someone you follow on twitter, instagram or facebook.

It could be a family member, a friend, a teacher or a celebrity.

Just pick someone and write their name down.

Step Number 2: How healthy do you want to be?

I am talking about mental and physical health.

Mentally do you want to be sharp? Do you want to be smart?

Well if you want to be smart, then you need to become a student and study.

For me it’s “life coaching”. That’s why I spend hours studying the subject, learning from the experts and putting theory into practice.

What subject would you like to become an expert in? Write it down.

Also to have mental health you need to be able to relax your mind. The best way I found to do this is through meditation. It’s where you sit in the lotus position close your eyes, focus on your breathing and just let your thoughts pass through you. Becoming detached and just observing.

Now what do you want for yourself physically?

Do you want to be fit and strong?

Want to look good?

To live longer?

Have lots of energy?

Write down how you would like to see yourself physically.

Step Number 3: What kind of relationships do you want to have?

What about yourself? Do you respect yourself? Are you kind to yourself or are you hard on yourself? What kind of relationship do you want to have with yourself?

What about god? Do you believe in God? If yes, what kind of relationship do you want to have with God?

Do you have a partner? Do you want a partner? What kind of relationship would you like with your partner?

Do you have children? Want children?

Have a pet? Want a pet?

Do you have friends? How many do you have and want?

Write down the kind of relationships you want to have.

Step Number 4: How much money do you want?

How much do you want to make per year? $50,000? $100,000, $1,000,000?

Or just enough to cover your expenses and survive?

Or do you want to make more and be in a position to help others who are less fortunate?

How much do you want to be worth (the value of your assets)? $200,000, $500,000, $1,000,000 or $10,000,000?

Write down how much money you want.

Step Number 5: Create a vision board of the above

Putting all this together.

You may be thinking – what is a vision board?

A vision board is basically a collection of pictures of how you would like your world to be in the future. It can even include inspirational quotes.

You normally hang your vision board somewhere where you can see it every day.

A vision board is powerful because it helps you direct your focus on what you want and what you focus on is where your energy flows.

Like I said I am going to be open and honest with you and therefore share with you my personal vision board.

You will notice that I have broken it down into the 4 areas – self image, health, relationships and money. These align with the 4 questions I just asked you.

Self image is the most important area because everything else stems from there – your health, your relationships and your money situation.

I have seen many vision boards that are cluttered with pictures and look a mess. Some vision boards are even laminated which I don’t recommend.

I suggest keep your vision board open to change. You want to be able to freely add and subtract images or quotes as you please.

Now an important part of my vision board is my Personal Vision Statement (PVS) which is a description of who I am or want to be, it’s my purpose. I will read it out to you.

“I, Martin Formato, am confident, smart, cheerful, strong and healthy, both mentally and physically, surrounded by loving family and friends, having fun helping people improve their lives through coaching and making enough money to be free.”

My PVS is an incantation which I repeat to myself every day and throughout the day. It covers all 4 areas and contains words that represent my values. Values are things that are important to me. I have put these in bold.

Now it is important for you to create your own PVS. It will help change the way you think, feel and act.

Your PVS is very powerful. It is a summary of who you are, your purpose. It is the reason you are alive. Your PVS gives your life meaning. Without a PVS you are just existing, you are lost, you have no meaning or identity.

Even your home has a PVS or purpose which is to provide shelter. Same with your car which is to get you from A to B. Everything in the universe has a purpose. If you don’t know yours it just means you haven’t found it.

So what’s your PVS or purpose? Write it down.

You can even use my structure by just changing some of the words.

Next, you need to write out each picture into what I call a “SMARTER goals.”

A smarter goal is one that is Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic, Time-bound, Exciting and Rewarded.

Remember what gets rewarded gets repeated.

For example, say your goal was to lose weight. You need to write this in a SMARTER format as this will increase your chances of achieving it.

Your goal needs to be specific; you may say I want to lose 26 kilograms (or 50 pounds) in 1 year. I suggest 1 year is too far away. So instead I would suggest you say something like “I will easily lose 4 kilograms (or 8 pounds) in 4 weeks”. You see this is specific and I used the words “will” and “easy” not the words “I want” or “I wish”.

Also, this is measurable and time bound. You can measure yourself every week to see if you are on track. And the word “lose” is the action-oriented word.

So we now have a sentence that is Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented and Time-bound.

Next, we need to make the goal exciting and rewarded. So I suggest you add why you want to achieve the goal, what are you getting out of it. For example “… so I can look better, feel better, have more confidence and energy” and for your reward you could say “and when I do I will reward myself with a massage and if I don’t I will donate $20 to a homeless person”. Now, this is more exciting and has a reward and a penalty.

So your SMARTER goal for losing weight becomes:

“I will easily lose 4kg (8 pounds) in 4 weeks so I can look better, feel better , have more confidence and energy and when I do I will reward myself with a massage and if I don’t I will donate $20 to a homeless person.”

Do this technique for all your vision pictures or goals.

Step Number 6: What do you need to do to realize your vision?

So how can you move from where you are now to where you want to be?

What do you need to do?

What options do you have?

Of all the options available, which one appeals to you most?

What strengths and resources can you call on?

What specific steps do you need to take?

When will you do them?

What support do you need?

How and who is going to provide that support?

Who else needs to know (accountability)?

On a scale of 0 -10, how confident are you that you will realize your vision?

What might get in the way?

How are you going to overcome this?

Step Number 7:  What are you waiting for?

Your vision is not just going to come to you. You need to go out and get it. You need to take massive action.

If you don’t take a step forward you will still be in the same position.

If you need permission I am giving you permission to go out and live your dream.

Face your fears and live your dream.

You don’t want to end your life having regrets.
