I was asked to be interviewed by 101 Business Radio.

Below are some of the questions and my answers.

1. How are you?

I’m good Michael and excited to be here, thanks for inviting me.

2. What’s a little about your background, how did you end up doing this for people?

Well as a child I had an interest in knowing how things worked.

So I would often take things apart to figure that out.

The problem was, sometimes I couldn’t put the thing back together again.

This interest led me to university where I studied engineering.

After I graduated I worked as an engineer for about 20 years, slowly climbing up the corporate ladder into management.

Over time my passion for engineering faded.

I noticed that I became a person who valued image, title, power, control, ego and money, and as a result I felt unhappy, unfulfilled and uninspired, my life lacked meaning and direction.

I had lost my way and felt that something was wrong, something was missing.

I felt empty inside.

I was stuck and not growing as an individual.

I felt stressed, frustrated and exhausted.

I would go home and grab a beer out of the fridge in an attempt to change my state.

Then I would watch the news and feeding my mind with negativity.

I just couldn’t go on like this.

Something had to change.

Pain is a great motivator, more than pleasure.

I wanted more out of life.

I wanted to express my true self and make a difference in the world.

So I did some introspection and realised that I always had a passion for personal development and helping people.

I felt that if I wasn’t making someone else’s life better then I was wasting my time.

Now some of your listeners may be thinking, come on Martin pull the other one, but it’s true and I’ll explain why.

It’s because I’m selfish. Aren’t we all? Everything we do, down deep we do for ourselves.

And I know that the more people I help the happier I become, the healthier I become and the more money I make.

Zig Ziglar once said “you can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough people get what they want.”

My interest in people started to grow.

I wanted to understand how people work, what drives them and what makes them successful.

So I asked Dr Google and found there was an industry called “Life Coaching”, so I signed up for a course with the Life Coaching Institute of Australia and became a professional certified life coach.

Now I don’t claim to be an expert.

I still consider myself a student.

The danger with calling yourself an expert is that as soon as you do that you stop learning and growing.

One thing I learnt was that success leaves clues.

Michael, do you know what the biggest difference is between a successful person and an unsuccessful person, and I’m not talking about a 6 or 7 figure income?

A successful person has an open mind whereas an unsuccessful person has a closed mind.

You can easily pick the unsuccessful person in the room as they would be the one sitting there with their legs crossed and arms folded thinking what the hell is this joker going to teach me that I don’t already know.

Well, I pleased to say that from what I see here in this studio there are only successful people here.

Today my values are health, family, friends, learning, contribution, freedom and fun and as a result I feel happy, fulfilled, inspired, inner peace and that my life has meaning and direction.

The meaning of life is to live a life of meaning, to grow and contribute and to do work that matters.

Our work gives us this opportunity to live a life of meaning.

Albert Pike said” What we do for ourselves dies with us – what we do for others remains and is immortal.”

Now our work falls into 1 of 3 levels.

1. A job
2. A career
3. A mission

If you consider your work a job then chances are you are not satisfied with it and only doing it for a pay check.

If you consider your work as a career then you are probably satisfied yet it is more about yourself.

However, if you consider your work as your mission then it is bigger than yourself and the most rewarding and fulfilling things you can do.

To be fulfilled we need to grow and contribute.

We need to be like a fruit tree that grows and bears fruit for others.

Michael, do you know what our mission is here on earth?

It is to become ourselves and follow our own path.

Bronnie Ware, who was an Australian palliative care nurse, said that the top regret of the dying was not living a life true to themselves, but one that others expected of them.

I believe the best way to live a life that’s true to you is to find your passion, develop it and give it to the world.

And that’s what I help people do.

I help people express themselves through their passion.

I help people start doing work that matters so they can be free, fulfilled and make an impact.

When we do work that matters we feel alive, healthier, happier and as a result have better relationships.

By doing work that matters, we can overcome stress, anxiety, depression, frustration, anger, negativity, weight gain, smoking, alcohol and drug addiction.

The world would be a better place if everyone was doing work that matters to them.

And if this work matters to others too then they would get paid for it.

I imagine a world where everyone loves Mondays and hates Fridays because they love what they do and, more importantly, are proud of whom they are becoming.

3. What’s your take on success?

Success is simply feeling good about yourself.

If you are a multi-millionaire and everyday you feel stressed and frustrated then you are a failure.

The fastest way to be successful is to be grateful.

The second fastest way is to be you.

And the third is to start doing work that matters by finding your passion, developing it and giving it to the world.

If you judged a fish on how well it climbs a tree then that fish is a failure.

Too often people are like a fish out of water because they’re on the wrong path.

If you are in business and struggling then I suggest you check that you are on the right path, that you are doing work that you are passionate about and aligned with who you are.

Also happiness comes before success.

You need to be happy first before you can become successful.

Happiness drives success.

No-one wants to hang around or buy a product or service from an unhappy person.

4. What can someone expect when they work with you?

At the moment and for a limited time, I’m offering a FREE introductory coaching session so you can try it out.

Also everything we talk about in the session is strictly confidential, your privacy will be protected, it’s a safe environment where you are free to speak your mind, I will not judge you, and I’m here to help you get what you want.

Because I coach people all over the world, I can do the coaching session through Skype or on the phone or face-face if you are in Perth.

During the session I’ll be asking questions to find out if or how I can help you.

We’ll look at where you ultimately want to be in your life/business/health/relationship/money situation. (Where do you want to go… the vision) We get crystal clear on that because clarity is power.

Next we’ll look at your current situation and see it as it is but not worse than it is (this creates a gap between your vision and where you currently stand)

My role is to help you close that gap.

Together we’ll uncover any obstacles or challenges and deal with them.

And the end of the session if I feel I can help you and only if I feel I can help you, we can explore what that might look like.

And you are free to ask me questions at any time during the session.

5. What type of clients have you had?

All sorts, because I take a holistic approach to coaching. I believe in balance.

Your life can be broken down into 4 areas.

Self-image issues (lack confidence, are lost and need direction), Health issues (deal with cancer, overweight, stressed, stop smoking), Relationship issues (deal with a breakup, finding your ideal partner), Money issues (making money online, passive income, create a website, internet marketing)

6. What’s the best way to contact you?

Your listeners can access my FREE course by clicking here

This book will help them determine if they are the right path, their path.

If you are in business and struggling then maybe you are on the wrong path, one that’s not aligned with who you are.

7. Closing

Thanks Michael for having me. I enjoyed today’s interview and I hope your listeners got some value.
